Roberta came to Canada from California in 1999 with an MA in art and experience as an art educator at the secondary and university level. Her studio work is based on the "Funk" assemblage movement of the 60s and 70s; earlier constructions were functional art, sculptural accent tables, screens, and lamps. In London, Ontario, her work took a new direction, responding to the many 19th century brick architectural gems of the downtown core, unloved and neglected buildings threatened with extinction. Her mixed media wall constructions are painted brightly in acrylics. Recent mixed media work recycles consumer waste and cast-offs, and addresses the theme of human consumption.
